Frequently Asked Questions
How can a psychologist help me?
Psychologists collaborate with clients to help them manage their thoughts, feelings and behaviours in various settings. Psychologists assess, diagnose and treat mental health concerns as well as aim to prevent the onset and relapse of mental health problems.
Working with a psychologist can assist in improving wellbeing, inter-personal & intrapersonal relationships. If nothing else, a psychologist can act as an empathetic ear for when you are experiencing distress and are in need of some support in navigating the challenges in your life.
Am I eligible for Medicare rebates?
In order to receive Medicare rebates you must have a GP referral for a mental health treatment plan.
Your GP will provide a referral for 6 sessions per referral. After the 6 sessions, your GP will be required to assess the progress of therapy and decide whether an additional 6 sessions are required.
Medicare will provide a rebate of $96.65 per session for 10 mental health treatment plan sessions per calendar year.
Does Hedonic Health conduct cognitive assessment?
Yes, Hedonic Health does conduct cognitive assessments. We can also assess and diagnose ADHD.
I am worried about Confidentiality
Everything discussed in therapy stays between you and your therapist, unless you consent for this information to be disclosed to a third party. Psychologists are bound to a Code of Ethics (set by the Australian Psychological Society), which assures we maintain client confidentiality.
All information gathered in session is stored electronically in a secure, highly encrypted online database, which can only be access by your therapist. These notes can be provided to you at your request.
What if I am not seeing progress?
It is important that there is an honest and open-line of communication between you and your therapist. The therapist will conclude each session with a reflection, which will give you an opportunity to voice any concerns you may have about the relevance or importance of what was covered in therapy. If you ever feel like progress has stalled or something is not working for you, please do not hesitate and let us know so we can tailor therapy to your needs!
What are your fees?
Performance psychology sessions will be $165 per 40 minute session.
Mental health sessions will be $220 per 40 minute session.
Why are performance psychology sessions less expensive than mental health sessions?
Performance psychology sessions are not covered by Medicare and as such no rebates are provided unless the client has private health insurance.
Can we do in-person sessions?
Hedonic Health operates out of Move For Life Mentone every Wednesday from 11am - 4pm for in person sessions.
